Wahoo! I am finally taking SCUBA. I am soooo excited to be finally in this class. I have wanted to do this ever since I heard they offered it here at WSU. So far...not a whole lot of SCUBA. Mostly swimming and learning the equipment. But I guess its just one step at a time. Last week we did a swim fitness test in lab. Phew! That was tough I had exercised early that day so I was mildly tired to begin with and by the end I was ready to collapse. Thankfully I had swim lessons (Thanks Mom and Dad!!) so I could actually do all the strokes, and I knew how to tread water. Its hard for me to imagine someone not knowing how to tread water, but there were a fair number in the class who didn't. Wow. I now own a pair of flippers, boots, a snorkel and mask; so at the very least I can go snorkeling. I'd never snorkeled before, so this weekend we went to the Snake river in Lewiston and I got to snorkel. It was really cool to swim and not bring my head up to breath, but there really wasn't much to look at as it was the shallow part of a muddy slow moving river. Oh well I don't think I ever want to normal swim again! Its pretty cool just to breath underwater. I can't wait until we can look at something over than a swimming pool and a muddy river.
On a similar note I can now save people the whole way. What do I mean by this? Back in high school when we learned lifegaurding techniques, sidestroke, how to turn people without moving their necks, I joked that I could save someone half way. At the very least get them out of the water. Now I have been certified in Red Cross CPR and First Aid, so along the same joke, I can save people the whole way. Although I'm not to anxious to have to try.
